| All Cameron bagpipes are fitted with patented Cameron Joints incorporating machined pvc bushes and neoprene 'o' rings. These joints represent one of the greatest
technical advances in bagpipe design in the last two centuries. Traditionally, bagpipe makers have utilised hemp as the medium for providing a seal at the stock joints and tuning slides. However, hemp is far from an ideal material as it is affected by heat and moisture. This can cause the slides to stick or become loose, which in turn makes it difficult to tune the pipes precisely. Also if hemp dries out it can allow the stock joints to leak, letting air escape from the bag. As any piper who uses traditional joints will know, a great deal of time is spent maintaining a good seal. By contrast, the patented Cameron stock joint and tuning slide bushes are turned in rigid PVC and the seal is provided by neoprene 'o' rings. These joints are unaffected by oil, heat or moisture and provide a consistent and reliable seal. In addition the design allows lubrication of the tuning slides, which means that they always move freely and easily. Standard Joint Set FirstChoice Joint Set Our latest optional refinement is Reed Protection. This completely surrounds the reed to give maximum protection to this delicate part of the instrument. Interestingly, recent tests indicate that using the reed protector tube may slightly increase the volume of sound from the chanter whilst retaining the quality. | |
| As well as being a standard fitting on all Cameron Bagpipes we are able to convert your own pipes to Cameron Joints. | ||
